Dr. Alexander Ochoa is a Marriage and Family Therapist who earned a Master’s in Clinical Psychology and a PhD in Family Therapy from Saint Louis University. He practices in the San Francisco Bay Area and provides telehealth services throughout California. With over 10 years of experience, Dr. Ochoa has worked with individuals, couples, and families from various backgrounds in settings such as mental health clinics, correctional facilities, outpatient clinics, and home-based environments.

Dr. Ochoa’s interest in mental health began during his undergraduate studies at Occidental College, where he played football and rugby. Through his athletic experience, he observed the immense physical, mental, and emotional demands placed on athletes to meet the expectations of coaches, parents, and fans. He recognized the importance of mental health in enhancing performance and facilitating recovery from injuries, which inspired his dedication to this area of work.

Drawing from both his doctoral studies and clinical experience, Dr. Ochoa developed a systems perspective, emphasizing the influence of relationships and interactions on individual well-being. He is committed to helping clients identify and achieve their goals by employing empathy, understanding, and insights gained from his professional and personal experiences.

Dr. Ochoa believes individuals thrive when they are attuned to their whole selves—body, mind, and spirit—and when they cultivate meaningful connections with others. He highlights the interconnectedness of mental and physical health, advocating for a balanced approach to well-being that considers the individual within their broader system.

Dr. Ochoa provides individual therapy for teens, young adults, and adults. His areas of focus include sports mental health, supporting athletes coping with fears of re-injury, effective communication, identity loss, anxiety, depression, substance use, life transitions, parenting, and conflict resolution.
